OUR mission and STORY
Everything we do at Parkway Heights centers around three ideas that define who we are. This is our mission:
1. to CONNECT people with one another and with Christ;
2. to EQUIP and prepare people for life;
3. to SEND people into a life of mission and ministry God has prepared for them.
Parkway Heights United Methodist Church was formed in 1949 as a church locating away from the city’s hub to its far western edge. Some 60 plus years later the city’s “edge” has moved considerably farther west, though the area surrounding the church and the church itself continues to thrive. (We are one block from the University of Southern Mississippi.)
Early on, Parkway Heights was involved in local, national and international missions. In the 1970's, the congregation adopted a Vietnamese family immigrating to the United States, started a mentoring program for school children in the Edwards Street area of Hattiesburg and began a tradition of supporting missions around the world. Throughout the years we have grown into a congregation with a unique calling for mission and outreach.
Today you'll find the people of Parkway Heights engaging others in many ways - through our Woodley Elementary School Partnership, delivering Meals on Wheels to our neighbors or going on mission trips. There's no shortage of opportunities to share God's love through helping others in large or small ways.
From our young children to our senior adults, all ages are involved in our mission to "connect, equip and send faithful disciples of Jesus Christ." As a congregation, we continue to grow and evolve, while offering a place where people can discover and live their new lives in Christ. Come and see what we're about first-hand. We'll be truly glad to have you!
